Growing demand for a small fire alarm system that goes beyond the requirements of NZS 4514 prompted the development of the FR1 Residential Panel. This product has several unique features in addition to the basic detection and local alarm functions.
The FR1 has fire, defect, and test relays which facilitate communication with an alarm monitoring service. Although the FR1 is not approved for direct brigade calling, building owners can instruct the monitoring service on their response to FR1 signals. This opens a vast range of possibilities. The monitoring company could phone the NZ Fire Service if the panel goes into alarm. If vandalism is a concern, the monitoring company could be instructed to send a security guard to investigate defect signals.
The FR1’s front-panel “Fire” button works like a manual call point. If you want everyone to get out immediately, press that red button. Sounders can be silenced by pressing the grey “Hush” button.
The FR1 has a two-wire detection & sounder circuit which allows manual call-points, sounders, strobes, and heat and smoke detectors to be daisy-chained on one pair of wires. Importantly, this detection & sounder circuit is supervised: The panel will sound a defect warning (and signal the monitoring service if connected) if the cable is broken or a device removed, providing greater reliability and protection than stand-alone smoke alarms.
