Completed in late 2016, One Parramatta Square is home to Western Sydney University’s Parramatta City Campus. The complex includes 26,500 square metres of commercial floor area on 14 levels, together with two levels of basement parking and a landscaped roof terrace. The 14-level main building and the 8-level podium are linked by a central atrium.
The fire detection, alarm, and evacuation system is built around a Pertronic F220 Analogue Addressable Fire Indicator Panel. An important feature of the system is the FAAST XS Dual-Vision aspirating smoke detection system covering the atrium.
To complement the atrium’s light, airy feeling, the aspirating system’s matte-black sampling pipe is mounted in the shadow of a purlin, rendering it practically invisible. The analogue addressable FAAST XS smoke detection unit is hidden inside an equipment cupboard near the atrium’s upper floor, where it is inaccessible to unauthorised personnel, but easily reached for maintenance. The FAAST unit communicates with the Pertronic F220 Fire Indicator Panel over an analogue addressable loop. Two beam smoke detectors at intermediate levels in the atrium supplement the FAAST unit.
The Pertronic F220 Fire Indicator Panel supervises more than 1,000 analogue addressable smoke and heat detectors. The panel’s large, easily-read display automatically provides fire-fighters and facility managers with the exact location of the source of any alarm.
During a fire alarm incident, the F220 controls ventilation fans designed to maintain air quality along important evacuation routes. The fire indicator panel also interfaces with an automatic evacuation system that automatically activates a pre-programmed plan designed to safely evacuate the building.
According to WSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover, “The 10,000 students who will study here will find themselves immersed in one of the country’s most technologically-advanced learning environments.”
Pertronic Industries are very pleased to have supplied fire system equipment for this project.
