Like many prestigious buildings around NZ, Fonterra’s Auckland head office has been fitted with a Pertronic analogue addressable fire system.
A striking feature of this seven-storey building is the atrium, criss-crossed by walkways linking the balconies and office space. Around the atrium the building has more than 16,000 m² of above-ground floor space. The complex also has a four-level underground car park.
Triangle Fire Protection installed the Pertronic F120A fire alarm system. They used a new generation FAAST aspirating detector for smoke detection in the atrium, with the sampling pipe suspended under the peak of the atrium roof. The detector itself is conveniently located near the upper balcony.
The aspirating system eliminates the cost of accessing high-mounted point smoke detectors for maintenance. Unlike other aspirating systems, FAAST detectors don’t need separate display units. These units are analogue addressable devices. Alarm or defect events occurring at the detector appear on the F120A fire panel’s LCD display. A FAAST detector can be isolated or reset at the fire alarm panel, just like any other analogue device.
A pair of beam detectors spanning the open space at levels three and five supplement the aspirating system. Acclimate multi-criteria smoke detectors are installed on all levels around the atrium.
